Brisbane Shadows Group

The Brisbane Shadows Group (BSG) consists of likeminded musicians who have a deep appreciation for The Shadows music along with other instrumental guitar tracks from the 60’s and 70’s.

This was a big era musically and many of us were greatly influenced by The Shadows, Cliff Richard, the Ventures, The Surfaris, The Atlantics, etc.

Brisbane Shadows Group was formed in 2012 to provide a platform for SE Qld musicians to regularly come together and keep The Shadows music alive while also promoting live music and enjoying the musical camaraderie – and of course – doing what we do best….. getting on stage and playing our guitars (and other instruments)

Since 2012 our group has undergone some changes but today we have a strong membership of guitarists, rhythm and bass players, drummers, keyboard and vocalists as well.

Being a member of this group is an opportunity to learn, play and collaborate with other great musicians and encouragement is freely given to each-other at our monthly get-together. In between the monthly meetings, group members usually practise in smaller groups depending on what “band configuration” they will be playing at the meeting.

These practices give the musicians an opportunity to gel with one-another and familiarise themselves with the songs while providing any input that may help with the performance of the songs.

At our monthly meeting each lead player plays a set of songs with a band of backing players he/she chooses from the roster for that particular meeting while the rest of the players enjoy a great social time with other members, their partners and anyone else who comes along to enjoy the music.

Our meetings normally occur on the second Sunday of every month from 12pm – 4pm, unless otherwise advised.

A $10 entrance fee for each Playing member is required to cover venue hire

The Shadows

The Shadows are Britain’s most successful instrumental pop band who have been inspiring millions worldwide for over 50 years to pick up a Fender Stratocaster in the quest for their magic sound.

One of their most famous chart topping singles ‘Apache’ has thousands of cover versions on ‘Youtube’ alone with performances ranging from bedroom guitarists to tribute bands and by guitarists of all ages and from many countries of the world.

Originally Sir Cliff Richard’s backing band, the Shadows were soon sharing top spots on the charts in their own right as well as with Sir Cliff. In addition to ‘Apache’ some of their best known #1 hit singles are ‘Wonderful Land’, ‘Kon-Tiki’, ‘Dance On’ and ‘Foot Tapper’.

In 2009/2010 The Shadows (with original members from the 60s Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch and Brian Bennett) once again joined Sir Cliff Richard for a 50th anniversary tour of Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa delighting old and new fans alike with their brilliant concerts.

There have been several changes to the lineup of The Shadows over the years and sadly 2011 saw the loss of Jet Harris, the original and much loved bassist on the early hits. Tony Meehan, the original drummer with The Shadows until 1961, sadly passed away in 2005.


